宁波数字孪生（东方理工）研究院（以下简称“研究院”）是由宁波市人民政府批准，宁波市科学技术局与宁波东方理工大学（暂名）合作共建的民办事业单位，具有独立法人资格的新型研发机构。研究院地处东南沿海重要的港口城市、长江三角洲南翼经济中心—宁波，位于宁波市甬江科创区核心启动单元的镇海庄市，毗邻宁波东方理工大学（暂名）、宁波大学、中科院宁波材料所、甬江实验室等重大科创平台。

研究院于2023年1月3日注册成立，8月15日正式揭牌，依托宁波东方理工大学（暂名）平台资源与优势学科，面向数字经济产业发展需求，围绕数字孪生前沿技术领域，致力于前沿基础研究与产业技术攻关并重，力争取得一批标志性、引领性原创重大科研成果，建设具有国内外影响力的高能级创新平台。研究院规划场地2万平方米，其中8000平方米的工作及实验用房陆续投入使用；针对数字孪生研究领域特点，按照统筹规划、分步实施的原则建设高性能计算平台，用于仿真模拟、高性能计算、图形处理等，首期已投入1500万元。研究院打造了一支由院士专家、国家级领军人才、中青年骨干、卓越工程师团队组成，结构合理、素质优良的高层次人才队伍。

下步，研究院抢抓数字经济发展新机遇，引进、培育一批高层次科研人才，形成一批有影响力的数字产品和标杆性应用场景示范项目，助推宁波成为数字孪生标杆城市，有力支撑宁波数字经济高质量发展。

Ningbo Institute of Digital Twin (hereinafter referred to as the "Institute") is a new type of research and development institution with an independent legal personality, approved by the Ningbo Municipal People's Government, and jointly established by the Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau and the Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo. This Institute is located in Ningbo, a vital port city in southeastern China and the economic center of the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta. It is situated in the Zhuangshi area, Zhenhai District, which is the core initiation area of the Yongjiang Science and Technology Innovation Zone, adjacent to significant scientific and technological innovation platforms, such as Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo, Ningbo University, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, and Yongjiang Laboratory. 

The institute was registered and established on January 3, 2023, and officially unveiled on August 15 of the same year. It relies on the resources and advantageous disciplines of Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo, facing the needs of the development of the digital economy industry. Centered around the cutting-edge field of digital twin technology, the Institute is committed to both advanced fundamental research and industrial technological breakthroughs. It strives to achieve a series of landmarks, pioneering original major scientific research achievements, aiming to construct a high-level innovation platform with  domestically and internationally influence. The Institute is planned to cover an area of 20,000 square meters, with 8,000 square meters allocated for working and experimental spaces, which have been gradually put into use. In response to the characteristics of digital twin research, a high-performance computing platform is being constructed according to the principles of overall planning and phased implementation. This platform will be utilized for simulation, high-performance computing, graphic processing, etc. An initial investment of 15 million RMB has already been made. The Institute has assembled a high-level talent team consisting of academicians, national-level leading talents, young and middle-aged backbone professionals, as well as outstanding engineers. This team is characterized by a reasonable structure and outstanding qualifications.

The Institute will seize new opportunities in the development of the digital economy. It will attract a group of high-level research talents, foster influential digital products, and establish benchmark application scenarios. This effort aims to propel Ningbo to become a benchmark city in the field of digital twin, providing strong support for the high-quality development of Ningbo's digital economy.
